Tatiana Gardel is a children’s book illustrator and teaching artist based in New York City. She received the 2025 Pura Belpré Honor Award for her illustrations in Abuelo, the Sea, and Me (Roaring Brook Press). Tatiana also illustrated Painting the Sky with Love (Feiwel & Friends), which won the 2024 Northern Lights Book Awards in the Community category. Other books she illustrated include Xavier's Voice (The Innovation Press) and The First Day of Peace (Candlewick).

Born and raised in Brazil, Tatiana earned her BFA in Painting from the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro and her Art Education License from the Universidade Candido Mendes. She began her career as a painter, later discovering her passion for visual storytelling while studying animation at Anima Mundi/Campo 4 Estúdio in Rio.

Tatiana works in both digital and traditional mediums, with watercolors and colored pencils being her favorite traditional tools. She loves to tell her own stories through her work as well as to contribute to other projects. She is especially drawn to heartfelt stories that explore children’s emotions and imagination.

Her illustrations have been recognized by the Society of Illustrators and American Illustration. She is a co-founder of #LatinxPitch and teaches Animation to young artist at the Harlem School of the Arts. She is a member of SCBWI, CBIG, Las Musas, and BCHQ.
